Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia N.P. belong together. You can visit both together, although it's quite a drive and most people visit Sequoia only. We did enjoy Kings Canyon N.P. even more than Sequoia, as it has much less people and you'll find in the beginning of the Park some Sequoia trees as well... Continue Reading →
Sequoia National Forest & National Park
Sequoias are monstrously big trees with a beautiful brown-orange bark. Idealistic as we are, we actually thought Sequoia National Park is a forest just with these trees. But as unique as these trees are, Sequoia N.P. is a "normal" forest, as we know it from Switzerland, but with some wonderful Sequoia trees in it. So,... Continue Reading →
Lake Isabella
If you want to get further West from Death Valley, you'll have the Sierra Nevada infront of you. As we are still early in the season, the Sierra Nevada is still full of snow and the roads over it are closed. So we needed to turn south, driving through the Owens Valley (with Owens Lake),... Death Valley II
The second Blog to Death Valley National Park is featuring Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, Scenic Drive of route 190, Mosaic Canyon hiking trail, Panamint Valley and Father Crowley Point. At Father Crowley Point the US military did some jet training. That's a point where they fly deep into the canyon, so that you can even... Continue Reading →
Death Valley: Thunderstorm below Sea Level
We crossed the state line from Nevada to California in the backcountry.. there wasn't even the typical welcome sign and we drove into Death Valley National Park. Death Valley, the epitome of deadly dry and hot climate. Not if you travel with Sarah! 😂 Rain and a thunderstorm was giving us the probably most rarely seen... Continue Reading →
Lake Mead & a Flashback on Las Vegas, NV
Just next to the Valley of Fire in western direction is the Recreational Area of Lake Mead. Similar to Lake Powell, it has this deep blue color and the mountains crashing into the Lake. It's absolutely stunning and we liked to cool off a bit after the hot desert of Valley of Fire. It really... Continue Reading →
Valley of Fire, Nevada
From Utah we drove further West to the state line of Nevada.. the casino state. First thing you see entering is tons of Casino's. And some advertising for cannabis, as it got lately legalized. We went off grid in the Valley of Fire. A wonderful state park with exceptional stone colors, rare wildlife and lots... Continue Reading →
A Flashback of Zion N.P., Brice Canyon N.P. and Grand Canyon N.P.
As stated in our blog before.. we tried on our adventure to explore, everything what we haven't seen on our 3 weeks trip in 2010 and try to see in addition to the typical famous national parks some less touristy spots. As we drove through Utah on scenic interstate 70, we did skip the famous... Continue Reading →
Driving through Utah..
Utah is a state which we actually had no idea of what it was. It wasn't famous for us like other states, such as California, Texas, Florida etc. But while driving through that state (this is actually what we merely did... driving through), we found it surprisingly beautiful and diverse. The nature got it all,... Continue Reading →
Arches National Park & the city of Moab
As we haven't visited Arches National Park in 2010, so we did visit it on our tour now, although knowing, that it will have thousands of tourists. And typically, first thing.. waiting on the entrance gate to get into the Park. We do not know, if it were the hundreds of Chinese standing infront of... Continue Reading →
