Edisto Beach is a famous beach area between Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia.
Edisto Beach State Park has a huge and amazingly beautiful system of hike trails which wind through Edisto island. Visitors are also there to fish for Flounder fish, boating and searching for the most awesome shells at the beach. It’s covered with all kind of forms of shells, the most variety and intact big shells we’ve seen in the country so far.
Bought some Flounder here which was excellent and so fresh.. mmhm…
Shells and shells and shells…..
Walking the trails of Edisto Beach State Park:
Driving to the nearby Botany Bay Plantation Heritage Preserve:
In Botany Bay Preserve you take back a step in time and can see the South Carolinas coast probably the way the settlers ages ago did. Along the coast the erosion created a shoreline with tons of dead trees, which makes a very special atmosphere. Unfortunately we were in the wrong season, otherwise you may see sea turtles nesting there.
We especially loved the diversity of the preserve, with the extraordinary beach, never seen something like this before with these trees.. but also the jungle-like woods and the salt marshes etc. This is definitively a must do if someone is in the area.
See Three on the Road again further south in Hilton Head, SC, a short stop, just before Savannah, Georgia.
I’ve stayed at my cousin’s beach house in Edisto before…lovely peaceful place. But we missed this preserve…awesome photos!
